I came across this when I was invited to join the Society of Authors three years ago and membership of ALCS is free if you do so. I have since left SOA so there is small lifetime fee for ACLS. I’ve just received a payment form them which I get biannually.

The payments are for secondary uses. For instance, when anyone photocopies or uses your books in schools. There is more detail on the site. Clearly, the more books you sell the more you will get paid every six months but it’s always a nice surprise. Here is the email address if you are interested.
