What was backstage theatre life like in the UK?

I have worked in theatre for over 45 years since 1973, mainly in the Midlands. My jobs ranged across most theatre departments, stage hand, lighting and sound technician, prop and scenery maker, and manager, leading to a wide range of stories from his extensive experiences.
